Love when the parts that are supposed to work do

A win over the Cubs is always nice, but tonight’s win was not just nice, but how it was nice.  Tonight saw the parts that we in Cardinal Nation were hoping to see, actually happening.

First off nice to see Lance Berkman go yard again, we knew it was a matter of time before the Big Puma would find his stroke.  And that shot in the first inning really set the table for the night.

Of course seeing Albert go deep is always nice, and tonight’s blast (his 100th at Busch Stadium), well showed us that Albert still can hit the long ball, and maybe just maybe the turnaround is upon us.  Albert’s been raising his average, and nice now to see the pop in his bat, and again let’s hope this is the start of a typical Albert Pujols long ball kind of year.

Also nice to see the defense not completely stink, kudos to the infield for not committing any errors tonight.  I’ll let Lance’s error slide, as he’s been more solid than not this year.  Oh and congratulations to Ryan Theriot for his hit extending the longest current streak to 17 games… his defense scares me, but I’ll give him his props on hitting right now. And I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that awesome play Jon Jay made in the outfield, the guy can flat out play the position.

And then there’s Jaime Garcia, who’s last outing was so forgetful that I’ve already forgotten it.  Somehow we knew it was hiccup, all starters have them and Jaime is no different.  Tonight he was on his game, going 8 innings, striking out 8 and allowing only one earned run…WTG Jaime, and welcome back although we knew you didn’t truly go anywhere.

So the Cardinals win keeps them ahead of both the Brewers and Reds who both won tonight (2.0 and 3.0 games back respectively), and with tomorrow being on the FOX game I’m hoping for a better performance than the last time the Cards were on FOX-oh wait I forgot that game already didn’t I?  So tomorrow it’s Kyle Lohse’s turn on the mound vs the Cubs Randy Wells.  Let’s keep it up guys and continue to beat the Baby Bears.
